BIOGRAPHY

Formed in the beautiful bush surroundings of Waiatarua in West Auckland, the Nikau String Quartet are a group of like minded musicians with a love for great music.

Emily Allen --- Violin 1
Emily Allen studied violin performance in New Zealand and England. While in England she gained a Masters in Performance and worked as a freelance violinist. She currently plays in the Waitakere City Orchestra and teaches violin with Celia at the Steiner school in Titirangi.

Coralie Usmani --- Violin 2
Coralie is currently studying performance violin at Auckland university as part of her bachelor of music degree. She has played in various groups around Auckland, including jazz, bluegrass, rock and orchestral groups. She teaches violin at home in Waiatarua and also conducts the Titirangi Rudolf Steiner School Orchestra.

Celia Wood-Calvert --- Viola
Celia (B.Mus., ATCL) studied violin in Auckland and Chicago. She is a well-known West Auckland violin and piano teacher who works from her studio in Waiatarua. She has also studied music therapy and loves to work with groups of children. She is currently playing viola in Waitakere City Orchestra and is teaching violin with Emily Allen at Titirangi Rudolf Steiner School.

Robin Snape --- Cello
Robin grew up in Auckland, studied at Otago and Auckland Universities, and pursued postgraduate study in cello at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where she worked and taught as a freelance cellist. Robin works fulltime as a professional cello teacher around Auckland and also loves to perform in orchestras and chamber groups.
